What kind of penalty did Kvyat get?

10 second stop and go. Worst there is for any during-race penalties

How was he not pulled out of the race? Looked deliberate to me

Exactly what I thought, it didn’t look very accidental. Once, maybe... Twice? No way.

“Worst there is”, yet still silly inappropriate when you factor in how this looks from his perspective; Kvyat, that is.

“Oh man, gonna run into him if I don’t brake harder ... sucks for him, AMIRITE ?”

Someone needs a slap. That’s not how you do something that doesn’t endorse full contact in the way wrestling does.

I don’t know. Didn’t look like it to me, but I think we’ll get an explanation from Kvyat soon

The first hit looked like it could've been accidental but I would expect a better driver to be able to avoid it. The second looked like it was purposeful

1) Where can one watch F1 regularly?

2) Obvious I’m not a frequent F1 viewer, but how is a 10 second penalty the worst punishment? Didn’t he basically just knock Vettel out of the race entirely? Didn’t look very “accidental”.

If you don’t want to pay a crap ton of $$$ for SkySports or don’t have NBCSports, your best bet is finding some shady streaming website with a ton of ads.

10 seconds is the worst for on track penalties... if they felt it deserved more, they could have added 10-30 seconds to the end race time, or they could have black-flagged him completely. Although a 10 seconds stop and go is actually pretty much 30 seconds, as you have to go through the pit lane. There will probably be an investigation, but anything short of a race ban will be pointless considering he didn’t finish in the points. Didn’t actually look purposeful to me

I’ve always thought Kvyat was a bit of a maniac, but that was just ridiculous. That’s definitely not how you act when the boss is publicly threatening your seat.

try reddit’s /r/formula1 subreddit, normally people will post not-sketchy HD streams right before the race starts.

Just a mistake to me... maniac isn’t what i’d call him, but ultimately he will have to face some competition from the Toro Rosso kids

If you want to watch regularly, do a bit of research on the /r/formula1 subreddit, you can usually find what you need there (I’m assuming you aren’t able to watch it on cable TV). Not all races are exciting, and even exciting races aren’t always exciting for every single moment or lap.

There have been precedents set where if drivers are reckless they can be suspended for a race; whether this will happen or not is yet to be seen. The in-race penalty is the harshest it can get since you have to slow down for the pit lane, stop for 10 seconds, during which you cannot have any work done on the vehicle, and then leave the pit lane (where speed limits are very low and strict).

The last race ended up on YouTube on Monday (not sure how legally). We have a pub here that shows them live for some fans, even for early morning races. Might be worth looking into something similar.

The front wing is too important and fragile to use as a battering ram.

Not if you don’t aim to perform anyway.

It wasn’t deliberate - rear ending another F1 car is not something anyone does on purpose*. It runs a high risk of damaging your front wing, or damaging your suspension and taking you out of the race, or worst, launching your car into the air as your front tire rides up on the rear tire of the car ahead.

I think he was just pushing hard at the outset to try for a strong finish at his home race, misjudged his braking point for the first contact, and then didn’t consider that Seb would still be feeling the car out through turn 3 since he just got clocked in the rear. He got the 10 second stop and go, and some points on his super licence (which will get him a suspension if he accumulates enough), and he admitted it was his fault.

* - not if they’re sane and want to finish the race, anyway
